Warrant’s Report If anyone has ideas for community service, please go to website to fill out the form / contact the unit (color guards, community service, etc). Please do not just send emails, utilize the process. Usually have one parent chaperone for community service and that role is mostly safety – kids run it.
Communication – If questions arise, talk to your cadet. If they do not know, they need to find the answer. The unit provides a plan of the week (POW) which they try to post on Fridays and shows them everything going on. They can also join the remind. Mon / Tues get a brief on the POW. Every cadet is part of a company which has a platoon and the platoon commander is their first stop for questions. We are trying to encourage them be responsible and learn time management. It’s ok for them to sometimes learn the hard way. Use the chain of command
Air Rifle – there is a lot of interest this year on Air Rifle and we have invested a lot of money through grants into the program. We expanded the program to also include precission in addition to sporter. We are limited to 6 targets because we are practicing in the classroom. There are 52 kids interested but can only have 12 kids shooting at one time. It takes time to teach the kids different poses, safety, etc. Tell them to stick with it and talk to gunny so they can try it. There is a plan in place to hopefully one day get a rifle range built. It has been requested through the county and we are hoping for approval later this year and then we will do fundraising to get a shooting range built. Our area manager committed to providing electronic targeting equipment if we get the range which would enable us to double or triple the number of cadets who can shoot at one time. It’s a great program and a great team and we hope to see that keep growing.
Promotions – E6 and below take a test and also have to pass PFT. If you want to go beyond E6, then it’s usually tied to a job which cadets can express interest in and apply for. Top staff makes recommendations to instructors and they select based on who is best fit for the job requested, involvement in program, experience. Then for E7 and above, they have to take a test and do an oral board run by the cadets. The test is given in company on designated days. If they fail it, they stay current rank until next promotion cycle. Promotion tests are October 7th and 8th. November 7th or 8th promotion ceremony where parents can pin cadets, during company and Warrant will send an invite. It is held at football field so anyone can attend without clearance. Study guides for promotion tests are on the cadet website where POW, etc are located.
Community service – 20 hours per year required, 15 through the unit that are organized and set up by unit; 5 unit service which are things that happen within fence line of Nease (football games, flag, events in auditorium). BCT counts for unit hours if working it as a cadre. All these hours can be used for Bright Future, the community / unit service breakdown is a requirement of NJROTC. If the volunteer hours are outside the unit, the unit does not accept them but could still be used for bright futures. Avg 4500 community service hours per year. Nease hosted Drill Meet are unit service hours and is a great way to knock those out. Unit has a website that has their hours entered by a cadet in charge based on roster from the event. Cadets can get a print out and take to instructors for signature. Cadets are encouraged to keep their own log to verify.
