FEBRUARY 2025
Preparation for a Fond Farewell

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of Gunnery Sergeant D. D. "Gunny" Hanson at the end of this school year. Gunny has been a respected Naval Science Instructor in Nease NJROTC since October 2004. Over the years, he has left an indelible mark on our unit, the countless cadets he has taught and mentored, and the NJROTC community as a whole.

We are planning a special send-off, and we need your help! For more than 20 years, Gunny has dedicated himself to making our cadets and unit one of the top programs in the nation. Along the way, he has formed numerous relationships and created countless memories. We want to gather these moments to honor his contributions. Please send any photos, video messages, or notes of appreciation to gunnygoodbyes@gmail.com by May 4, so we can include them in Gunny's retirement celebration.

SAVE THE DATE! We will be celebrating Gunny's retirement on Saturday, May 10. More details about the party will be shared soon, so stay tuned!

Gunny, we are so thankful for you and hope the last few months of your incredible career with Nease NJROTC are just as remarkable as the years you've given to the program.

Spring Promotions

Spring promotions ceremonies are coming up fast! Make plans to attend, and be ready to help pin your cadet with his or her new rank! Promotions will be held at Nease High School in the football stadium. School clearance is not required, so extended family members who may not normally have school clearance are welcome to join. Promotion time is your cadet's normal class time on either February 27 or 28 at noted above. See you there!

CPO Meeting

Our next monthly CPO meeting will be held Thursday, February 20th at 7:45am in portable 40 at Nease. You must register by noon the day before the meeting to attend and you must be cleared by SJCSD to be on campus. Register HERE to be included in the meeting.

Sending Lots of LOVE

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, we want to take a moment to recognize the parents who donate their time, talents, and resources to help make our cadets and unit a success!

A huge thank you to the volunteers who assisted with the Night of Lights fundraiser. This major event wouldn't be possible without the parents who helped collect parking fees and direct traffic. Your efforts did not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful!

To the parents who contributed to Cookies and Cocoa or donated items, we appreciate you! These socials are a wonderful way to celebrate our cadets, and we couldn't make them happen without your support.

Thank you to everyone who purchased Jaguar tickets through our special link! A portion of the proceeds goes directly back to the unit—your support truly makes a difference.

We also want to express our gratitude to those who participated in the Kendra Scott fundraiser. It was a fantastic event, and we hope to hold another one soon, so stay tuned for more details!

We know there’s a lot happening in the unit day in and day out, and your ongoing support is essential. Whether you've donated food, helped at events, or given your time in any other way, we are sincerely thankful for you!
