A unit like ours is constantly on the move, with events happening throughout the year, and volunteering is critical to our success!
Cadets are required to complete community service as part of their grade requirements, but we need parent volunteers, too! Whether you're a cadet looking to serve your community or a parent looking to get involved and support the unit, there are plenty of opportunities available.
Here’s how it works:
Cadet Community Service
All cadet volunteer opportunities are coordinated by the unit through the Cadet Website. Cadets need to check for opportunities and sign up to volunteer. Cadets MUST serve at least 5 community service hours per quarter and 20 hours cumulatively each year to remain in the program. Promotion requires more hours. Fifteen of these hours must be earned at NJROTC-sponsored off-campus community service events. The remaining 5 hours may be earned through NJROTC-sponsored on-campus community service events or unit service.
- Community service opportunities are open to all cadets and are available year-round.
- Community service hours may count toward the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship when submitted to the school counselor and can also help cadets earn their Service Ribbon.
- To participate, cadets must:
- Complete the online Google Form for the community service event.
- Submit the permission slip at least three days prior to the event.
- Cadets are responsible for arranging their own transportation. Drop-off and pick-up must be on time.
- On the day of the event, cadets must remember to check in and check out with their OIC (Officer in Charge).
Parent Volunteer Opportunities
Parent volunteer opportunities are available throughout the school year and are a wonderful way to support the unit, get to know the cadets, and become part of our incredible NJROTC community.
Opportunities include:
- Event Volunteers
- Parent Chaperones for cadet community service events
Event volunteer opportunities will be posted on the CPO Website and the Parent Facebook Page.
To chaperone a cadet community service event, simply visit the Cadet Website, select the event, and sign up for an available parent volunteer slot.
Chaperoning is easy! The cadet officer-in-charge (OIC) handles the event details and coordinates the cadets. Parent chaperones simply provide adult supervision, observe the event, and are available should an adult be needed.
Intested in chaperoning at competitions, including overnight trips?
This level of volunteering requires Level II Fingerprinting. Please refer to the email sent Aug 31st or follow this link: https://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/volunteer/fingerprinting/
Our unit cannot operate without the support of our parents. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong and dedicated community, and we look forward to another amazing year of working together!
